No, there is no residency requirement. You can form a SIA (Sabiedrība ar ierobežotu atbildību) remotely, without travelling. The only requirement is a registered office address in Latvia, a service we provide.
As a general rule, forming a SIA takes 3 to 5 business days once all documents are signed. Registration with the Latvian Enterprise Register (UR) is entirely digital. We keep you informed at every step of the process.
Since 2018, Latvia has applied a unique tax regime: profits reinvested or kept in the company are not taxed (0%). Corporate tax (20%) is only due when profits are distributed as dividends. This mechanism is fully legal, compliant with EU law, and lets you maximise your available cash.
The company pays its taxes in Latvia. As a tax resident elsewhere, you typically need to declare dividends you pay yourself from your Latvian company at home. Double-tax treaties help avoid being taxed twice on the same income. Profits kept inside the company are not taxed at home. We recommend a consultation with a tax expert in your country.

Dissolving a Latvian SIA is done through the Enterprise Register (UR). If the company is in good standing (no debts, filings up to date), you can request a voluntary dissolution. We handle the entire procedure for you if you wish to close your company.
